Micro-Forest @ Belvédère Terry Fox
We are helping to monitor and maintain a micro-forest in Belvédère Terry Fox, planted by the City of Montreal and Arbre-Évolution in October 2024. Our aim is to provide quantitative evidence of the ecosystem services provided by this urban ecosystem. The forest consists of two plots side-by-side, each filled with young native trees which will bring biodiversity, carbon capture and lush greenery to the neighborhood. Learn more here.

What is a micro-forest?
Micro-forests attempt to implement Akira Miyawaki’s planting method. Native trees and shrubbery are planted within close proximity of each other, which mimics a dense natural ecosystem and promotes rapid growth. The correct ratio of canopy trees, sub-canopy trees and shrubbery is very important for the health of the forest. Micro-forests are an excellent way to bring the benefits of a healthy forest into urban environments.
